Add and activate a WebShop theme
Adding a theme makes it available in the account. Activating it changes the design used by the selected shopfront. Review the storefront, menus and content before planning a switch.
Add an available theme
- Open WebShop → Choose your Theme and note the currently active design.
- Select Add a theme.
- Review the available Standard Templates and any Custom Templates. Use a theme’s demo link to inspect its presentation where offered.
- Choose Add to your shop for the intended design.
- Review the added theme in the account list. Adding it is separate from activating it.
Activate the intended shopfront design
- Check which shopfront should use the new theme and record the previous active choice.
- Select the intended theme’s Activate theme action.
- If Activate template for appears, choose the intended shopfront and confirm Activate.
- Reopen the account list and check the active theme for that shopfront.
- Review the actual customer-facing homepage, navigation, category/product pages and key content.
Check menus and theme settings
Menu positions and theme settings can differ. Review the relevant menu links, logo, colours, banners and homepage content after an intended switch. Use the instructions for the actual theme; Heathers settings are not a universal list for every design.
Custom copies
The theme catalogue also offers create a custom template. A custom copy and the settings of a standard theme have different maintenance implications. Plan the intended customisation, file access and recovery process before using a copy as a new production design.
Create and work on a custom copy
- Record the current active theme for the main and any additional shopfronts. Decide which design you intend to customise and how you will check it before activation.
- Open Add a theme. Under Standard Templates, identify the intended design and use view demo where offered.
- Choose create a custom template only when you intend to create a copy. This is a creation action, not a preview or a change waiting for a later whole-page Save.
- Read the actual result and inspect the account’s theme list for the intended custom entry. If the result is interrupted or unclear, check the list before trying again so you do not deliberately request another copy.
- On the intended custom theme, use Edit files. This opens File Manager; it does not itself confirm that the visible folder belongs only to that theme.
- Identify the exact theme folder and file before editing. File Manager can also show shared resources, receipt files and email files. If the association is unclear, ask support with the theme and filename before replacing anything.
- Download and retain unchanged originals. Make the intended changes in a separate working copy, then follow the file-replacement task for the correct folder and exact filename.
- Read each upload result and inspect the intended page at relevant screen sizes. Check navigation, images, product options, basket and checkout as appropriate to the change. A successful upload alone is not a complete storefront check.
- Use the separate activation task above only when the design and target shopfront are ready. Check the actual active choice and customer-facing journey afterwards.
Prepare recovery before editing
Keep the previous active theme and unchanged files with your change notes. Agree whether recovery means reactivating the previous design, restoring a particular file, or both. Switching themes does not necessarily undo changes to shared files, content or settings; deleting a custom theme is not a file-restoration procedure.
For example, replacing one image for a custom design needs the original image and its exact folder. Replacing a shared receipt file is a different change and should not be treated as part of a harmless theme preview. Make one identifiable change at a time so the result and any restoration can be checked.
If the wrong design appears
Confirm the shopfront/domain, the account’s active choice and the theme you edited. Keep the previous theme reference with your change notes so the intended design can be reviewed without guessing.
Activation is a separate change
Opening settings or adding a design does not itself select it as the active theme. Activate theme changes the chosen storefront’s design. Record the previous choice and inspect the target after activation. Do not use Remove theme as a way to switch designs or assume it provides recovery of custom work.
Remove an unused theme deliberately
- Check the active design for the main and additional storefronts before removing a saved theme.
- Record the theme identity and retain any custom work or settings you need.
- Use Remove theme only on the intended available theme card.
- Read the confirmation and cancel if the theme or its dependencies are uncertain.
- Confirm only for an intended removal, then inspect the remaining theme list and active storefront.
Removing a saved design is separate from activating another one. Do not assume it restores a prior design or preserves every custom asset for recovery.
