How can we help?

Move and nest categories

Category order controls where departments appear in the tree. Nesting places a category inside another category. Decide which change you need before using a movement control: tree moves submit the new arrangement immediately, without a separate Save button.

Find the correct branch

  1. Open Catalogue & Stock → Categories / Departments.
  2. Use Show or hide subcategories to expand the intended parent.
  3. Check the category title, indentation and neighbouring rows. Note its original parent and position.
  4. If the category has children, review the whole branch you are moving, not just the parent’s title.

Indentation shows parent and child relationships. Use the movement controls on the intended row.

Change position within the same parent

  1. Find ↑ and ↓ on the category row.
  2. Use the intended direction to move relative to the other categories at the same level.
  3. Wait for the operation to finish before making another move. Check the resulting position.

With a keyboard, focus the category’s Reorder handle and use the up or down arrow key. With a mouse, use the Reorder handle to drag the category to its intended position. Dropping a dragged category submits the new arrangement too.

Change the parent level

  1. Check the intended parent and the category immediately before the row you want to nest.
  2. Open Level. On narrower layouts the arrangement control may be labelled Arrange.
  3. Use Make subcategory of previous to place the category under the previous category at that level.
  4. Use Move to parent level to move a nested category out one level, after its current parent.
  5. Check the new indentation and expand the relevant branch to verify the result.

Example: put Backpacks inside Bags

First check whether Backpacks already belongs inside Bags. If both are at the same level, position Backpacks immediately after Bags, then use Make subcategory of previous on Backpacks. If you only want Backpacks earlier within Bags, use up/down instead of changing its level.

Understand unavailable actions

The first category at a level cannot move farther up, and the last cannot move farther down. A top-level category cannot move out to a parent level. Making a subcategory requires a previous category and enough room within the supported depth; the current controls limit the tree to four levels, including the top level and any children moving with the branch.

Check the saved result

After the move completes, reopen the page and check the order and parent relationships. Review the affected till category view separately. Webshop Menus manages storefront navigation separately; check the relevant menu rather than assuming it follows the category tree’s order.

If a move fails

Read the error, let the list reload and inspect the current arrangement before trying again. Do not assume an error means every part of a larger reorganisation was reversed. Keep the original path and intended destination when contacting support. Undo delete is not a history of category tree movements.

Opening a category versus moving it

Selecting a category name opens its editor. Use Show or hide subcategories to expand a branch, and use that row’s Reorder, arrows or Level controls for an intended move. Expanding a branch is a browsing action; a move submits an order change. Check the row title and parent context before choosing an action.
