Create an email marketing list
Create a list in the eMailSense dashboard
Builder and the eMailSense dashboard provide separate entry points. Check which screen you are using before following the form labels below.
- Open your eMailSense dashboard from Builder, then choose Lists. The dashboard’s Create List shortcut also opens Lists.
- Choose Create list on that page.
- Enter the intended List name, From name and From email. Check the sender identity and sending-domain requirements before using the list for a campaign.
- Review Double opt-in, Send welcome email and Unsubscribe notification separately. Read the explanation beside each control; the dashboard describes the unsubscribe option as notifying you by email.
- Review the values and message choices before using Create list. Check the actual resulting list and settings afterwards.
- Use Cancel to return to Lists without submitting the new-list form.
Do not assume similarly named subscription options on Builder’s form and the dashboard form have identical recipients or behaviour. Review the intended process before adding subscribers or changing automatic messages.
A list defines more than its name. Review the default sender, business/contact information and subscriber-message choices before adding customers.
Create a list from Builder
- Open eMail Marketing and check the intended account is active.
- Select Create New Mailing List.
- Enter a clear Name describing the intended audience.
- Review Default From email address and Default From name. Confirm the address and the service’s sending-domain requirements before using them for a campaign.
Check the contact fields
Review Company name, State / Province / Region, Address 1, optional Address 2, City, Zip / Postal code, Country, Phone, Email and Home page (URL). Replace instructional placeholder text with the intended details rather than saving it as the business address.
Review subscriber messages
The form separately offers Send subscription confirmation email, Send a final welcome email and Send unsubscribe notification to subscribers. Choose each deliberately under the shop’s intended subscription process. A list-setting choice is different from sending a campaign.
Save and check
- Review the name, sender/contact values and message choices.
- Select Save list.
- Find the list under Your Email Lists and open the intended list.
- Review its sync scope and subscriber state before synchronising customer information.
Example: a trade-news list
A label such as Trade news helps distinguish it from a general subscriber list. The label alone does not restrict membership; configure and verify the intended customer-group or manual selection.
Review sync scope · Select customers individually.
Configure the list after creation
Creating the list and choosing its membership are separate tasks. Check the actual audience before any campaign.
- Review an email list’s sync scope
- Add selected customers to an email list
- Manage domains excluded from email sync
- Investigate email-list synchronisation
Find and check the intended dashboard list
- In Lists, use the search and date/name sort to find the intended audience.
- Check the list name before opening its overview. The subscriber-count link opens that list’s subscribers; check actual records when confirming membership.
- Read Statistics updated beside the list. A row’s Refresh statistics is separate from importing contacts or sending a mailing. Check the resulting time and figures after an intended refresh.
- Keep list-specific counts separate from account-wide summaries and from campaign recipients. If numbers disagree, retain the list name, statuses and timestamps for support rather than changing membership to force a match.
Prepare a file import into the intended list
- Open Lists and check the intended list identity. The dashboard’s Import Contacts shortcut opens Lists; it does not immediately import contacts.
- Open the appropriate import or Upload a file entry and check the list name in the page heading before choosing a file. A generic shortcut can lead to a particular list, so check the destination every time.
- Download the screen’s sample CSV and compare your column headings. The sample uses EMAIL, FIRST_NAME and LAST_NAME. The form requires an email column and headers in the first row and recommends UTF-8 for special characters.
- Prepare one intended subscriber per row. Keep your original file and review the actual email addresses and names before uploading.
- Read the duplicate-email warning: this form says existing subscribers will be updated. Establish which existing data you intend to change before proceeding.
- When you intend to proceed, use the upload area and review the actual Start import flow. The page describes uploading, matching columns to list fields, and reviewing progress and the import log. Check the actual mapping and committing action rather than assuming all columns have been matched correctly.
- After an intended import, inspect its result and log and check representative subscribers in the intended list. Do not use a headline count alone to establish that the intended records and fields were imported correctly.
The upload area advertises .csv and .txt files. Use the current sample and inspect the actual accepted file and mapping; changing a filename extension does not convert its contents. A file import is separate from Builder’s customer synchronisation and from sending a campaign.
If an import result is unexpected
Retain the original file, intended list name, mapping choices and import result or log. Check an affected email address in that list before repeating the import, because a retry may update existing records. If counts disagree, distinguish the intended list and subscriber statuses from account-wide totals and ask support to reconcile the specific records. Do not remove subscribers or reverse an unsubscribe merely to make totals match.
