How can we help?

Set up receipt printing in the Android app

Use this guide for receipt printing through the ShopTill-e Android app. Have the exact printer model, connection and paper width ready. Confirm that your printer is supported for the intended app connection before changing a working till.

Before you start

  1. Open the intended shop in the Android app and check its till and outlet.
  2. Record the current printer selection, connection and paper width so you can compare the result of any change.
  3. Identify whether you are setting up a USB printer or a LAN/network printer. For LAN, obtain the printer’s local IP address and printing port from the device administrator or its configuration.
  4. Check power, paper and cover/error indications using the printer’s instructions. Arrange a suitable time for a test receipt and any drawer test.

Select a USB receipt printer

  1. Connect the supported printer to the Android device using the appropriate USB connection or adapter.
  2. Open the app’s Settings → Hardware & Peripherals.
  3. Use Scan Hardware → SCAN and review the detected printer entries.
  4. Match the intended printer, then choose its SELECT action. If several devices appear, identify the correct one before choosing.
  5. Review Android’s USB permission prompt for that printer and approve the intended connection.
  6. Check the Receipt Printer status. If it says permission is required, use AUTHORISE for the intended saved printer and review the prompt. If it says disconnected, check the actual connection before retrying.
  7. Continue with paper width and a test receipt below. A selected or authorised printer still needs a physical output check.

Add and select a LAN printer

  1. In the same app settings area, find LAN Printer.
  2. Enter a meaningful Printer Name, the confirmed IP Address and Port. Use the port specified for that printer; do not assume a displayed value is correct for every device.
  3. Choose Save LAN Printer. Read any error and check that the intended saved name and address appear.
  4. On the saved printer row, use USE when you intend it to become the selected output. Check which row shows DEFAULT.
  5. Use Test [printer name] to check the connection. A reachable result is a connection check, not confirmation that a receipt emerged.
  6. Continue with Test Receipt to check the selected output and physical layout.

Set the paper width and check one receipt

  1. Check the roll and printer requirements against the app’s Receipt Paper value.
  2. Where appropriate, use USE 58 MM or USE 80 MM and check the displayed width afterwards.
  3. Confirm the intended output printer again. Choose Test Receipt → PRINT once.
  4. Inspect the actual paper: readable text, intended width, alignment, wrapping and complete content. Record any missing, clipped or unexpected output.
  5. Once the basic test works, use an agreed reprint of an existing saved sale to check your shop’s receipt layout. Keep its order reference and identify any test copy; do not take another payment to test printing.

Treat printer selection, paper-width actions and the LAN save as configuration changes. Leaving the settings screen is not a way to undo them. Check the displayed selection and reopen the relevant settings after an intended change.

Check the cash drawer separately

The app’s Cash Drawer → TEST action requests a drawer pulse through the receipt printer. Use it only when an intended physical drawer opening is appropriate. Confirm the drawer is connected to the supported printer and check whether it actually opens. A receipt result or an on-screen success message alone does not establish a drawer result.

Example: two checkout printers

Give network printers names staff can recognise, such as Front till and Packing desk. Before using USE, compare the saved address with the intended physical printer. Check the DEFAULT row and one test receipt so an output change does not quietly send customer receipts to the other location.

If the printer is missing or nothing prints

  • No USB printer detected: check printer power, the data connection, adapter and supported printer model. Scan again after checking the connection; a charging cable or an unrelated USB device is not proof of a printer connection.
  • Permission required: check the selected printer and the expected Android prompt. If permission is refused or no prompt appears, keep the exact status and ask support rather than changing unrelated device permissions.
  • LAN printer not saved: keep the validation message and review the exact name, address and port before correcting the entry.
  • Network reachable but no paper: check the selected default, printer state and test-receipt result separately. A network connection can succeed while the receipt route still needs attention.
  • Clipped or wrapped output: compare the actual roll with Receipt Paper and the receipt layout. Change one thing at a time and compare an agreed test copy.
  • Unclear or delayed result: check whether output already emerged before requesting another copy. Keep the saved order reference, timings and exact app error.

Preserve pending local orders and app data while investigating. Do not uninstall the app or clear its storage as a printer repair. Give support the app details, Android device, exact printer model/interface, selected output, paper width and the results of each separate check.
