Practical guides for your shop, WebShop and till.

Review a till point’s name, outlet and opening float

A useful till-point name helps you identify the checkout used for a transaction or report. Review the device and outlet context before changing an existing till point.

Inspect from the till

  1. Open the till and check the displayed till-point name.
  2. If the information header is collapsed, use Expand till information header.
  3. Select Edit till point name to open ePOS Till Point Data.
  4. Review Name of the till, the Device ID list, The daily starting balance of the till, Active and Outlet.
  5. If inspecting only, choose Cancel. Do not remove a linked identifier or assign the device elsewhere as part of a simple name check.

Inspect from Builder

Open Global Settings → ePOS/Till Setup → Till points. The list distinguishes named and unregistered entries and provides Edit, Assign and Delete controls. Check the matching entry before considering a change. The available till-point allowance shown for an account can differ from the example account.

Example: distinguish two checkouts

Names such as “Main checkout” and “Upstairs checkout” can help staff report which till they used. Confirm the outlet and device mapping as well as the wording. Two similar names are not proof that two devices are grouped together.

Opening float and report context

The editor’s The daily starting balance of the till field configures an optional fixed opening float for that till point, for example £100. Check the exact till and its intended amount; another till point can have a different setup. Review its treatment in the relevant X/Z report before changing an established value. Do not change the float merely to make a report total match.

Devices and assignment

The editor exposes linked device identifiers and Assign to Existing Till Point. Grouping or removing devices can affect which till context is used. Plan and verify that workflow separately from renaming, including how existing transactions and reports are treated.

Device readiness before changing till identity

Rename the intended till

  1. Check the current checkout's till name, outlet and linked device before opening its editor.
  2. In ePOS Till Point Data, enter the intended Name of the till. Enter till point name here is the placeholder for that same field.
  3. Review the other visible fields, including outlet, active state and daily starting balance, so an unrelated change is not saved with the name.
  4. Select Save for the intended update.
  5. Reopen the matching till record and check the saved name. Check the actual checkout's displayed identity before its next sale or report.

Use Cancel when no update is intended. If the action fails, keep the till identity and error and inspect the record before retrying. An existing till-point edit needs the appropriate settings access.

Register a newly detected checkout

A newly detected device may appear as an unregistered till. Check the device and its outlet first. An authorised registration flow can offer a till name and permitted outlet choices while omitting the established till's float and active-state controls. Ask an administrator if the expected outlet or existing till is unavailable.

Name an unregistered entry from Builder

  1. Open Global Settings → ePOS/Till Setup → Till points.
  2. Find the intended Unregistered till row and match its device reference to the checkout you are preparing. Several unregistered entries can exist; do not choose one by its position in the list.
  3. Choose Edit beside that row to open ePOS Till Point Data.
  4. Enter an identifiable Name of the till and check the listed Device ID. Do not remove its device identifier merely to give it a name.
  5. Review The daily starting balance of the till, Active and Outlet. The Builder editor can show all of these fields even for an unregistered entry. Check each deliberately; a preselected outlet or active state is not confirmation that it matches the intended checkout.
  6. For an intended update, choose Save, read the result and reopen the matching record. Check the actual checkout’s name and outlet before its next sale or report.
  7. If you are inspecting only, or cannot identify the device confidently, choose Cancel without saving.

For example, two unregistered entries may belong to different browsers or devices. Confirm which one staff will actually use before naming it “Upstairs checkout”. Giving a record that name does not establish that another similarly named device is linked to it.

Confirm the assignment scope before saving

Before either till-side or Builder assignment, confirm with your administrator or support which linked devices will move, what happens to the source till entry, and how existing transactions, reports and queued local orders will be treated. Keep the source and destination identities with that decision. If the affected devices or reporting consequences are unclear, use Cancel and keep the current assignment while they are established. A destination selected in the dialog does not answer those questions.

Assign the device to an existing till point

  1. Finish or deliberately park the current basket and check pending payments and unsynchronised work before planning a different till context.
  2. Open the current device's till-point editor and select Assign to Existing Till Point where that action is available.
  3. Check the source checkout and the linked identifiers in its editor before proceeding. Review Device to move where it is offered. It can identify the source device or offer a device choice. Compare the complete identifier with the intended checkout; Name of the till chooses the destination.
  4. Review the offered destinations and select the intended till. A different till can already be selected when the dialog opens. Match the actual checkout and outlet, not only a similar name. If several devices share the source till point, confirm which devices the assignment will affect with support before saving.
  5. Select Save for the intended assignment, read the result and check the current device's till identity and location.
  6. Recheck the device's printer and terminal context before resuming normal sales.

If the form reports no devices or no eligible till points, keep the current assignment and ask an administrator to review the device and outlet access. Renaming a till and assigning a device to another till point are separate changes.

Review assignment from Builder's Till points list

  1. Open Global Settings → ePOS/Till Setup → Till points.
  2. Identify the exact source row. For an unregistered entry, match its displayed device reference with the checkout you intend to assign. Do not choose a row merely because it is labelled Unregistered.
  3. Use Assign beside that row to open Assign to Existing Till Point.
  4. Review Name of the till and its available destinations. A destination can already be selected when the dialog opens; check it deliberately rather than accepting the first name.
  5. If inspecting only, choose Cancel or close the dialog. Opening Assign is separate from saving an assignment.
  6. For an agreed assignment, choose the intended destination, review the source and destination again, then use Save. Read the actual result and check the device's till identity before returning to sales.

The Builder dialog opened from an unregistered row identifies its source through that row. Check Device to move as well as the destination wherever that field is offered. If the dialog identifies one device, compare its full identifier. If it offers a device choice, select only the intended source device. If no source choice is shown, establish the source context before saving and cancel if it is ambiguous. Do not assume a destination name alone tells you which linked devices will move.

For example, when assigning an upstairs checkout, do not save a preselected “Main checkout” destination unless that is the intended till point. If the intended destination is missing, cancel and have an administrator check the account, destination and access. Do not rename an unrelated till as a workaround.

After an intended assignment, check the actual checkout identity, outlet, printer and terminal context. Review the treatment of existing and future transactions and X/Z reports with support; a selected destination or closed dialog alone does not establish how reporting is grouped.

Daily starting balance

This is an optional fixed amount configured per till point, rather than a closing cash count or an automatically carried-forward balance. Review it against the cash-handling setup, save only an intended configuration change, and check the saved value and relevant report. Keep the actual cash count, counted variance and end-of-day records separately; editing the opening float is not a way to complete a cash-up or correct an unexplained difference.
