Review payment and estimate options on the till
POS Settings includes several controls that affect the choices available to staff. Review the option relevant to your workflow, then test its transaction and reporting behaviour before making it part of normal use.
Find the controls
- Open Global Settings → ePOS/Till Setup.
- Under Orders and receipts, find Allow custom payment method in ePOS?.
- Under Payments and order options, review Title of the custom payment method?.
- Review Use the gift voucher as payment method and Enable Pay On Account in ePOS? separately.
- Review Enable creation of Estimates? for the estimate workflow.
- Record the current choices and leave without saving if you only needed to inspect them.
Prepare and name a custom payment method
- Agree exactly what staff will record through the custom method and what evidence they must retain. Keep this separate from connecting an integrated card terminal or redeeming a ShopTill-e gift voucher.
- In Global Settings → ePOS/Till Setup, record the current custom-method enable choice and title.
- For an intended setup, review Allow custom payment method in ePOS? and enter a clear Title of the custom payment method? that staff can recognise. Check both sections of the form before saving.
- Use Save Settings for the intended update, then reopen the settings and compare the stored choice and title.
- Review the actual payment choices on the intended till and staff account. Confirm the displayed title before arranging the controlled transaction and reporting check.
- Check the saved order’s tender and amount, the relevant payment breakdown and the shop’s separate supporting record. Agree how cancellations, returns and remaining balances will be handled before routine use.
If the choice is absent, keep the stored settings and actual till screen for support. Do not rename an unrelated tender or select a different payment method merely to make an order appear paid.
A title is only a label
A custom tender can have a shop-defined title. Naming it after a payment service does not establish a connection to that service or prove that money was collected. Verify what staff should record through that route and how it appears in the transaction records and reports.
Accounts, vouchers and estimates
Pay On Account involves customer account records and reconciliation. Gift vouchers have their own records and redemption rules. An estimate is a separate workflow whose payment and stock effects need checking. Do not assume these options behave like a completed cash or card sale.
Example: a legacy credit-note process
If you plan a custom tender for credit notes from a previous system, document the intended evidence, accounting treatment and staff process. Arrange a controlled test and check the transaction and reporting result before introducing the process for customer use.
For example, a customer presents an old £20 credit note and wants to use £12 of it. Establish how the original note is verified, where that £12 use is recorded and how the remaining £8 is tracked. A custom title such as “Legacy credit note” does not by itself establish automatic balance validation or transfer the old system’s voucher records into ShopTill-e. Keep the source credit note and agreed balance record with the transaction.

If an expected option is missing or unclear
- Record the till point, staff account and the exact option you expected to use.
- Review the matching ePOS/Till Setup choice and, for a custom payment method, its configured title. Keep a note of the current choices before planning a change.
- For Pay On Account or a voucher, follow the relevant customer-account or voucher guide and identify the intended customer or voucher record.
- If a sale has already been attempted, inspect that order and its recorded payment outcome before retrying. A configured label or enabled option is not evidence that a payment was collected.
- Give support the order reference, expected option and observed screen. Do not enable several unrelated payment settings to investigate one missing choice.
