How can we help?

Practical guides for your shop, WebShop and till.

Record a product’s brand and GTIN

The product editor has separate Brand and GTIN fields. Check the manufacturer or supplier’s information for the exact item before entering either value.

Prepare the information

Use the confirmed brand name and the identifier supplied for the item represented by the record. Review the exact size, colour or pack where relevant. An internal shop SKU and a manufacturer-supplied identifier can serve different purposes; do not invent an identifier simply to fill an empty field.

Update the record

  1. Find the intended product in Product Management and choose Edit.
  2. Open Advanced → Identity and classification.
  3. Review Brand and enter the confirmed name consistently with your other records.
  4. Review GTIN and copy the exact confirmed value, preserving leading zeroes.
  5. Compare it with the product packaging or supplier record before saving.
  6. Select Save changes & close, reopen the product and verify both fields.

Example: several pack sizes

If a supplier sells an individual item and a multipack, confirm which record each identifier belongs to. Similar names are not enough to establish that the codes can be reused across the two products. Keep a note of the supplier source when resolving a discrepancy.

Check brand browsing in your WebShop

If your shop presents brand choices or a brand filter, check that customer journey after an intended catalogue update. The Brand field and the shop’s actual theme/navigation are separate things to review.

  1. Reopen the intended product and confirm its saved Brand spelling. Compare other products meant to belong to the same brand, including spacing and punctuation.
  2. Open the intended public storefront and the category or product-list page where customers browse those items.
  3. If that page offers brand choices, select the intended brand and check the resulting products. Clear the choice and compare the list again.
  4. Check that the expected product is available in that storefront and that any other selected filter or customer-group restriction is appropriate.
  5. If the brand choice is absent or its results differ, keep the exact page address, brand spelling, product/SKU and selected filters for support.

For example, two records intended for the same supplier brand should use the agreed name consistently. First compare the saved names and the exact customer-facing list; do not rename a confirmed manufacturer merely to force an item into a filter. A brand field does not by itself establish that every theme provides a brand filter or that every category includes that product.

Before relying on a marketplace or shopping feed

Review the actual exported item and any channel validation message. Saving these fields is separate from proving that a feed includes them or that the destination accepts the item. Keep the SKU, affected option or pack, field values and exact channel message together when asking for help.

Troubleshoot a missing or different identifier

  1. Check the product name and shop SKU first, so you are comparing the same catalogue record.
  2. Compare Brand and GTIN in the reopened editor with the exact supplier or packaging information. Check leading zeroes and the represented pack or option.
  3. If the editor is correct but an exported listing differs, keep a copy of the affected export entry and its item identifier. Review the relevant catalogue export and mapping setup rather than replacing a confirmed identifier to silence an unrelated message.
  4. If the expected field is missing from the export, record the channel, product, export time and exact field that is absent. Saving the catalogue record alone does not show which fields a channel received.
  5. Use Contact support with the comparison and exact channel message when the difference remains unexplained.

For example, a base product and a pack of six may have similar descriptions but represent different supplier items. Resolve which record the listing uses before copying a code between them. Do not use a successful barcode lookup as proof that a marketplace has accepted the same identifier.

If the identifier is uncertain

Resolve it with the supplier or the person maintaining your catalogue before changing an established value. Barcode scanning, variant barcodes and a shopping-feed identifier need their own checks.
