How can we help?

Read CSV import results and resolve problem rows

After a CSV import, use Import results to review the reported changes and rows needing attention. Keep the exact file you submitted and your original export while checking the outcome. Different result headings can apply to the same import, and some problems leave a product partly updated.

Inspect the result

  1. Check which file and import type you submitted: Products, Categories, Prices or Stock/SKU. Keep the filename, submission time and matching/replacement choices with your notes.
  2. Read every result heading and its count. Choose View row numbers beside a heading to reveal the reported entries.
  3. Locate the corresponding records in the submitted CSV. Keep the original row order while investigating. Compare the record's ID/SKU and title, not just a spreadsheet line number.
  4. Open representative affected records in Builder and compare current values with the original export and intended change.
  5. Prepare a separate correction only after you understand which fields already changed and which did not. Keep the original submitted file unchanged.

What the headings mean

HeadingWhat to check
Updated / AddedThe importer reports an update or addition. Inspect the resulting record and relevant fields; a reported change does not replace checking its contents.
Invalid product IDCheck the current product identity and selected matching method. Do not invent a replacement ID to get past the message.
Invalid column countCompare that CSV record with the header structure. Check separators and quoted text containing commas or line breaks, using the actual CSV rather than its appearance in a spreadsheet.
Invalid variant (product still updated)The main product may already have changed. Check its fields and existing variants before correcting the variant data.
Invalid category (product still updated)Inspect the product and its current category membership. Correct the intended category data without reintroducing old assignments from an earlier export.
Unresolved category (auto-create off; product kept)Review the intended category path and whether automatic category creation was deliberately disabled. Inspect the existing product/category assignment before a correction.
Other errorKeep the reported rows and inspect their current values. Ask support to investigate rather than assuming the whole file rolled back.
DeletedReview the delete-and-replace choice and the affected records immediately. Do not treat these entries as ordinary updated CSV rows or repeat the import to recover them.

Example: category problem after a product update

You imported a description change and a category path, and the result includes Invalid category (product still updated). First inspect the product's description and category membership. The description may already have changed even though the category needs attention. Build a controlled correction from the current record; do not assume the entire row was rejected.

If the upload fails or the result is unclear

For Incorrect file, check that you chose the intended CSV and that its headers and comma-separated structure match the import type. Renaming an Excel workbook to .csv does not convert it. For an unreadable upload, missing result, timeout or mixed outcome, inspect current records before submitting again. Keep the exact message and original file for support.

A fresh import or another session can change the results you see. Retain a copy of the relevant result details while investigating; do not rely on this screen as a permanent import history.

Prepare the next attempt

  • Resolve the matching identifier and field format for each problem record.
  • Check any fields that already changed, especially main product details alongside category/variant problems.
  • Keep delete-and-replace out of a limited correction.
  • Recheck stock against intervening sales or deliveries before resubmitting a stock-count file.
  • If recovery is needed, arrange a controlled restoration using retained originals. Do not assume another import restores images, relationships and all previous settings.

Prepare a catalogue CSV · Stock-only CSV updates · Preserve CSV identifiers · Retain original exports.
