Add a WebShop menu link
Add one item when you want one new link. First identify the menu location customers actually use, such as main navigation or the footer.
Open the intended menu
- Open WebShop → Webshop Navigation Manager.
- Select the intended Storefront and find the relevant active menu.
- Use Show items if needed, then select Add item to this menu.
- Enter the required Title: this is the text customers will read.
- Review Active?.
Choose the destination
Select the appropriate Type. The current form offers Page, Product, Category, Gallery, Blog and URL. For types with a Reference selector, choose the actual target record. For URL, enter the intended destination address and check it before saving. Do not use the visible label as proof of the destination.
A Page link can point to About Us; a Product link can highlight one item; a Category link can open a range. A URL link can point to another website. Check current storefront routes before using an internal path copied from an old guide.
Match the Type to its target control
| Type | Reference to review |
|---|---|
| Page | A list of available information pages. Read the selected page, not just the menu Title. |
| Product | A product list. Similar or repeated names need checking against the intended catalogue record before using the link. |
| Category | A category selector showing the hierarchy. Choose the intended category rather than leaving - Select -. |
| Gallery | A gallery selector. Review the selected gallery even when only one is offered. |
| Blog | No separate Reference selector was shown for this type; use the Blog checks below. |
| URL | A text field under Reference for the main destination address. This is separate from Extra URL. |
- Choose the intended Type, then inspect the target control it displays.
- Check any preselected reference deliberately. Some lists can already name a page, product or gallery without you selecting that record.
- Compare the intended destination with the menu Title and selected storefront before saving.
- After an intended save, reopen the item and test the actual customer-facing link. If the required target is missing or ambiguous, cancel and resolve its identity before creating the link.
For example, a menu Title of “Contact Us” must point to the intended contact page. If Reference shows “About Us”, changing the title alone does not select the contact page. Choose the correct reference and check the resulting storefront link.
Check the new item’s starting state
An Add a menu item form can open with a blank Title, Active? No and Type - Select -. Review all three before an intended save. Choosing a destination type does not supply a title or establish that the item is active.
If Blog has no Reference selector
Choosing Blog can leave no separate reference field in this form. Keep it distinct from a Page link to one information page or a URL link to an exact address. Check the intended storefront’s blog destination and the actual saved menu link before relying on it. Extra URL is an optional presentation field, not a replacement for a missing main target selector.
If the intended blog destination is unclear, use Cancel and ask support with the storefront and menu location before creating a link. Do not choose a similarly named page or enter an address in Extra URL simply to make the form look complete.
Review optional presentation
The form also offers Image, Extra text and Extra URL. These depend on the storefront template. Extra URL is a separate setting from the main Type/Reference destination.
Save and test
- Check Title, Active, Type, Reference and optional fields.
- Select Save changes and check the result.
- Review the new item’s position and nesting; use the reorder controls if required.
- Test the actual link on the intended storefront and relevant device sizes.
Example: an information footer
Add Page links labelled About Us and Contact Us to the intended footer menu, selecting each existing page as its reference. This can coexist with a main menu of product categories. Check that your current template displays both locations.
If the link is missing or wrong
Check the storefront, menu’s template location, item active state and actual target. If there is no appropriate active menu, review the available location before creating one. Auto-generating a menu is a separate replacement operation, not a shortcut for adding one link.
Enable a menu location · Edit a link · Reorder and nest links.
Example: customer registration and account links
For a shop whose customer-account pages use these routes, a URL menu item can use the following destinations. Check the actual Register and Login links on your intended storefront first.
| Suggested menu title | Destination path | Page to check |
|---|---|---|
| Create an Account | /account/create | The customer account-creation form. |
| Account Log-in | /account | The customer account entry page; a signed-out visitor can be shown the Login form. |
- Choose the intended menu and add a new item with a clear Title.
- Select URL as the item’s Type and enter the destination for that shop.
- Review Active and the menu location before an intended save.
- Open the link on the actual storefront and check the page heading and final address. You can inspect the destination without registering an account or submitting a login.
A leading slash starts at the current website’s root. Use your own storefront and account links rather than copying another shop’s full domain. If your shop redirects to a branded domain, check the final address as part of the link review.
If an account link opens an unexpected page
Compare the menu item’s actual URL with the intended storefront’s Register or Login link. Check the selected storefront and its account settings before replacing the destination. A familiar menu title does not establish that it reaches the correct shop or that registration/sign-in will complete successfully.
Example: add a Home link
- Check the home page of the intended storefront first, including any redirect to a branded domain.
- In the intended menu, choose Add item to this menu and enter a clear Title, such as Home.
- Choose URL as the Type. Enter
/in its main Reference URL field to point to that website's root. This is separate from Extra URL. - Review Active?, the menu location and any other fields before an intended Save changes.
- Reopen the saved item and check the actual storefront link and final address. Confirm it reaches the intended home page; do not copy another shop's domain.
If your storefront is served under a different public address or a path beneath a shared site, check its actual home link with support before using the root path. Use Cancel when you only want to inspect the form.
