Select discount products, categories and exclusions
For a quantity offer, choose the qualifying range and exclusions separately. For example, a department offer may include its normal range while excluding a premium subrange. Writing those names in the offer title does not select them.
Choose what qualifies
- Open Discounts/Promotions/Offers, then add a rule or edit the intended rule.
- Choose Buy a quantity, get a special price in Discount type?.
- Under What’s discounted?, choose Qualify type?. Use All products and categories for a broad range, Specific Products for individual records, or Specific Categories for departments.
- For a specific range, type at least three characters of a name into Qualifying product or category.
- Choose the intended result from the suggestions. Typing the name alone does not select the record.
- Check that the chosen name appears in the selected list. Repeat for each additional product or category.
- With Specific Categories, choose Include sub-categories? deliberately. Include a product from a child category in your offer checks.
Add exclusions
- Under What’s excluded?, review Exclusion type?.
- For a specific exclusion, search in Excluded product or category and select the intended suggestion.
- Check the selected exclusion list independently of the qualifying list.
- For category exclusions, review Exclude sub-categories? separately from the inclusion setting.
- Test an excluded item alongside a qualifying item before advertising the offer.
Remove or replace a selection
Select Remove beside the selected name to remove it from that list in the form. This changes the offer’s selection; it is not a command to delete the product or category itself. Review both lists and save only when you intend to update the rule.
Changing a scope dropdown can reset the selected range. After switching between products and categories, check every selected name again, including when you switch back. Do not assume the previous list has been retained.
Example: accessories with an excluded range
Suppose the written offer covers an Accessories department and its children, except a Premium Accessories range. Choose Specific Categories for qualification and select Accessories, then review Include sub-categories. Set the exclusion range independently and review Exclude sub-categories. Compare a normal accessory, a premium accessory, an unrelated product and a mixed basket. Check products assigned to more than one category as well.
Check parent-only and child-category boundaries explicitly
Do not use the saved Yes/No labels alone as proof that a child department qualifies or is excluded. Before advertising a parent-only offer or a child-category exclusion, agree the intended boundary with support and compare a parent-only product, a child-only product, an excluded child and a product assigned to more than one category. Keep the actual named discount and basket result with each comparison. Cancel an incomplete setup rather than assuming a department label establishes the calculation.
Save and check
- Review the rule’s quantity, spending threshold, method, amount, dates, customer group, code and live state.
- Use Save changes & close for the intended update.
- Reopen the rule and compare its type, both selected lists and subcategory choices with your written offer.
- Check the calculated result using representative baskets before promoting the offer.
If a name cannot be selected
Check the scope dropdown and whether you are searching for a product or a category. Type a distinctive part of the name, wait for suggestions, and choose the correct record. If similarly named records are hard to distinguish, check the catalogue first. If a selection disappears, check whether the scope changed before adding it again. Do not save an incomplete range just to dismiss the dialog.
