Handle a card payment that needs review
If the till reports an uncertain card outcome, preserve the basket and follow its payment-review screen. A connection failure, blank terminal display or cancelled-looking window is not proof that no money moved.
Keep the existing evidence
- Stop before starting another charge or changing the sale.
- Keep the till page and basket available.
- Read the exact till message and compare the amount, time, terminal/provider transaction and any approval/reference shown.
- If a recovery report or backup is offered, keep it with the order details for support using your approved private support route.
When the provider confirms approval
Use I checked — payment was approved only when the terminal/provider record confirms the amount and this exact attempt. Read the confirmation carefully: recording an existing approval is a different action from sending a new payment.
When the provider confirms no payment
Use I checked — no payment was taken only when the terminal/provider evidence confirms that no charge or refund occurred for the attempt. A timeout by itself is insufficient. If the outcome cannot be established, keep the sale protected and contact support.
Approved payment, unsaved order
If the till says Payment approved — order not yet saved, keep the basket and the payment reference. Recovering the order is the task; taking payment again would not resolve that saved-order problem.
Local storage messages
If the till states that payment was not sent because local storage needs attention, keep the page open, use the offered recovery report and inspect Service → Local storage with support. Do not clear browser data or remove local recovery records as a shortcut.
Inspect local orders and backups · Preserve earlier partial tenders.
