Change discount priority
Use discount priority to arrange the rules in Discounts/Promotions/Offers. Review priority when two promotions can apply to the same purchase. The order is one part of the setup: each rule’s eligibility, calculation and combination settings also matter.
Before changing the order
- Open Catalogue & Stock → Discounts/Promotions/Offers.
- Identify the offers by their full titles. If titles are similar, open Edit to check the details, then use Cancel to leave without saving an edit.
- Record the current sequence, for example with a screenshot. Note each affected rule’s Live? and Can it be combined? settings, dates, customer group and code.
- Decide which pair of offers you need to compare and what result you expect. Arrange a suitable time to make the change if customers may be using those offers.
Move a discount
Moving a rule sends a save request immediately. There is no separate Save button for the list order. Use these controls only when you intend to change priority.
- Find the rule’s Priority controls.
- Select Move up or Move down to move it one place. Alternatively, use its drag handle to move it to the intended position.
- Wait for the request and list refresh before making another move.
- Check the rule’s position in the refreshed list. The first rule cannot move further up, and the last cannot move further down.
- Reopen the page and confirm that the intended sequence remains before relying on it.
Example: two offers overlap
Suppose you have a quantity offer on selected bags and a spending-threshold offer. A basket containing several qualifying bags might meet both conditions. Check both rules’ combination settings before changing their order.
- Compare a basket qualifying only for the quantity offer.
- Compare one qualifying only for the spending offer.
- Compare one qualifying for both, using the intended customer and discount code where applicable.
- Repeat with an excluded item or a basket just below the threshold.
Record the item prices, quantities, discounts and final total before payment. Do not assume the first rule always wins, that both offers add together, or that the system automatically chooses the largest saving. Use the promotion test examples to plan the checks.
If the move fails or the order is unexpected
- Wait for the list to finish refreshing. If an error appears, note it.
- Reopen the list and compare the actual sequence with your record before trying another move. A connection problem does not tell you whether the change reached the server.
- Check that you moved the intended rule and that another colleague is not also arranging the offers.
- If needed, deliberately move the rules back to the recorded sequence, then reopen and check again. Closing the page does not undo a move.
- If the order will not stay as intended, contact support with the rule titles, previous and current order, time of the change and any message. For an unexpected discount, also include the basket and relevant rule settings.
Returning the list to an earlier order does not reverse completed sales. Check affected transactions separately if a promotion has already been used.
