Choose the files included with a digital product

Digital product files have two stages: a file can exist in the library, and it can be included with a particular product. Check both before offering a download for sale.

Before uploading

Prepare the final customer file, check that it opens and confirm you can distribute it. Use a clear filename and keep the original. A downloadable pattern, for example, should contain the intended size range and instructions before you link it to the product.

Choose an existing library file

  1. Open the saved product from Product Management and choose Advanced.
  2. Review Product Type and the intended Digital choice.
  3. Under Product Files, select Manage files.
  4. Compare All Files with Files included in the named product.
  5. Beside the intended library file, select Add to product and check that it moves into the product’s included list.
  6. To change that selection, use Remove in the included list. This is different from deleting the library file.
  7. Use the file manager’s Save changes & close to return the selection to the product editor.
  8. Complete the product editor’s Save changes & close, then reopen Manage files to verify the saved inclusion list.

Upload a new file

  1. In Manage product files, select Upload Files and choose the intended local file.
  2. Review the queued filename and any type or size message. Remove a mistaken queue entry before uploading.
  3. Select Start Upload and review progress and errors.
  4. When the library refreshes, find the uploaded file and use Add to product.
  5. Save the selection back to the editor and save the product, as above.

Understand the different save scopes

Uploading to the library and saving a product’s inclusion list are separate actions. Treat a completed upload or confirmed library deletion as an applied file action; closing the manager or cancelling the main product editor should not be used as an undo procedure for it.

Removing a link or deleting a file?

Use Remove when the intended change is to the current product’s included-file list. Delete is a library-file action with its own confirmation. Review other products and existing purchases before deleting or replacing a shared file.

Before selling or replacing a download

Use a test order to follow the download journey: check the product page, confirmation/payment state, delivery message, customer access and the actual file received. Check how a new file or changed inclusion list affects earlier purchases. Do not assume that a file visible in Builder proves a customer can download it.

If the intended download is missing or is the wrong version

  1. Check the exact product and its Product Type, then reopen Manage files.
  2. Compare All Files with Files included in the named product. A file in the library is separate from its inclusion with this product.
  3. Compare the full filename and intended revision with the file you prepared. Check the product’s saved inclusion list before assuming an uploaded file replaced the customer’s download.
  4. For an existing purchase, keep the order reference and payment/access state with the intended filename. Follow the digital-product access checks before promising access or recording another order.

Keep shared library files available while investigating earlier purchases. Removing a product link, replacing library content and deleting a file have different scopes; do not use a public file link as a workaround for unresolved customer access.
